Summer Day

admissions process

We are excited to announce that you may now submit your application online! While we will continue to accept paper applications, we encourage families to use the online application.

Apply online now or download the application and required forms from our Admissions Forms age.

1. Application
  • Basic Application
Submit the basic application before scheduling an interview or attending visiting day. Submission of this application allows our office to create a file for each applicant and to monitor completion of the various requirements. Please include an unofficial copy of your child's most recent report card with the application.
Please note: When applying online, the $50 application fee must be paid in order to submit your application. For paper applications, please make checks payable to Lawrence Woodmere Academy
  • Birth Certificate and Transcript Request Form
A copy of your child's birth certificate and a completed transcript request form should be mailed to Lawrence Woodmere Academy when you submit your basic application.
  • Teacher Recommendation Forms
Teacher recommendation forms should be submitted directly to your child's teacher(s). Applicants for Grades PK-4 need to provide (1) recommendation from your child's current classroom teacher. Applicants for Grades 6 - 11 need to submit (2) teacher recommendations: (1) from a math or science teacher, and (1) from an English or social studies teacher. Teachers will appreciate being provided with a stamped envelope addressed to:

2. Personal Interview
Lower School: Once an application has been submitted to the admissions office, the interview, testing, and classroom evaluation are part of a single visit that is scheduled directly with the Lower School.

Middle and Upper School: Applicants and their parent(s) must schedule an interview with the admissions office.

3. Testing
Lower School: Once an application has been submitted to the admissions office, the interview, testing, and classroom evaluation are part of a single visit that is scheduled directly with the Lower School.

Middle and Upper School:
All applicants applying to grades 5 through 10 are required to take the SSAT, the Secondary School Admissions Test. This test is required by most Independent schools on Long Island and will be accepted by most New York City Independent schools that require the ISEE (Independent School Entrance Exam). The next time the test will be administered at our school will be February 4, 2012. Please click here to register. We will also accept the ISEE exam scores if your student has already taken that exam.

4. Visiting Days
Lower School: Once an application has been submitted to the admissions office, the interview, testing, and classroom evaluation are part of a single visit that is scheduled directly with the Lower School.

Middle and Upper School: After the interview, each applicant is required to return to Lawrence Woodmere Academy to spend a portion of the day in the classroom setting. This is an opportunity for your child to experience a typical day at LWA.

We will also accept the ISEE exam scores if your student has already taken that exam.
