I hope that the summer has been wonderful for you. I now officially have 8 weeks under my belt and, while far from expert, have wrapped my hands around a few things! I am writing to you today to fill you in on the plans for the year...there are a lot of exciting things on the agenda!
Homecoming
Saturday, October 16; please come out and celebrate with us! It's a great way to support the school and have fun in the process! There will be rides for the kids, great international foods and lots of alumni with whom to reminisce!
What would you do with $10,000?
Take a much needed vacation?? Defray the cost of your own or your child's tuition?? Pay off bills?? Whatever your answer, $10,000 sure will make a big dent. Yes, I am talking about the Academy's very first 10,000 Alumni Raffle!! Yes, you read that correctly!! LWA is giving away $10,000 to one lucky alumni! We will sell only 400 tickets, so the odds of winning this raffle put Lotto to shame! Tickets are $100 each. We will choose the winner at Homecoming, but you don't have to be there to win. YOU DO HAVE TO ENTER, though! Click on the "Add to Cart" button below to be taken to our paypal page. I've seen this type of raffle at other schools and it is a wonderful win-win. So, go ahead and click the link; you will be glad you did. Now, if we can't get 400 alumni to buy a ticket, I'll be forced to change this into a 50-50, with a cap of $5000. But, I know that this alumni base is strong and committed to the school, so we shouldn't have to deal with that at all!
I'm also looking for volunteers to help plan several functions throughout the year: If you would like to volunteer, please let me know. I would be very grateful for the help and it will be fun to work together! Of course, I'm also interested in your thoughts on these events as well!
Golf Outing (targeting April or May, 2011).
The work would really come in getting sponsors and 4-somes together. So, whether you are a scratch golfer or just like to drive the cart, this is the event for you!
"Professional Women's Luncheon" (targeting Early December, possibly in Manhattan).
Let's celebrate the achievements of the Academy's long list of prestigious woman alumni! While the function is for women, I will not discriminate on the basis of gender for volunteers!
5 K Race (targeting May / June, 2010).
Summer will be right around the corner and it will be time to get back into shape! What better way than to join current students and alumni alike and RUN! Or, JOG. OK, I w-a-l-k, but the point is that this is a fun and healthy way to support the school! If you like to get out there and move it, let me know and we can work to plan the first Academy 5K!
Of course, we will also be continuing our Centennial Campaign, leading up to our 100th Birthday in 2012!
