LWA Students Showcase Their Work at the Hewlett-Woodmere Public Library Art Gallery
April 26, 2010
Hewlett-Woodmere Public Library Art Gallery held a reception on Friday, April 23, for the students from Lawrence Woodmere Academy who showcased their art during the month of April. The students, ranging from kindergarten through twelfth grade, gathered with their friends and parents to celebrate their art work.

LWA Middle School Students Participate in the South Shore Science Challenge

Middle School students from across the South Shore participated in the South Shore Science Challenge at Lawrence Woodmere Academy on Saturday, March 20.

LWA Mock Trial Club Competes in New York State Bar Association Mock Trials
March 2, 2010
The Lawrence Woodmere Academy Mock Trial Club has been invited to compete in the third round of Mock Trials sponsored by the New York State Bar Association (NYSBA).

LWA Alum Wins Prestigious National Achievement Award
January 15, 2010
Samuel del Pilar '08 is one of 75 students nationwide selected for scholarships from the Hispanic Engineer National Achievement Awards Conference (HENAAC). He is a sophomore at University of Massachusetts Amherst and is majoring in mechanical engineering.

Caroline Boneparth '06 Helps UNC to 2009 NCAA Women's College Cup
December 7, 2009
We are proud to announce that Caroline Boneparth helped the University of North Carolina Tar Heels win the 2009 NCAA Women’s College Cup on Sunday, December 6, against Stanford. This is the 20th NCAA title for the program, and the third NCAA Championship for the seniors. The team (23-3-1) defeated Stanford 1-0.


LWA Student Crowned Miss Congeniality at the Miss New York Teen USA Pageant
December 4, 2009
Kimberly Taff, a senior at Lawrence Woodmere Academy, was crowned “Miss Congeniality” at the 2010 Miss New York Teen USA Pageant held at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Albany on November 29. Taff was among 10 semifinalists of 85 contestants, aged 14-18. The participants were judged on beauty, poise, and performance in interviews and runway events. Taff is a member of the Cum Laude Society, Captain of the Varsity Soccer team at LWA, and hopes to major in journalism and acting in college.

 

LWA Lower School Welcomes Famous Children’s Book Author Ed Young
November 16, 2009
On Friday, November 6th, Lawrence Woodmere Academy Lower School students welcomed Ed Young, a renowned illustrator and children’s book author. Young started out as an illustrator and expanded his career to become a writer. He has illustrated over 80 books for children, 17 of which he has also written. One of his books, Lon Po Po, earned him the Caldecott Medal, which is given to the most distinguished children’s book artists.

 

 Tom Gersh and Caroline Clark lead LWA’s Fall Athletics
November 4, 2009
Tom Gersh, a new junior from Neponsit, finished 3rd in the IPPSAL Championship cross country meet on Wednesday, October 28, at Eisenhower Park. As a first-time cross country runner, Gersh broke the school’s 5,000 meter record. The LWA Cross Country Team finished 3rd overall in the IPPSAL Championship, which is the team’s highest place since they joined the league in 2005.

 

LWA Announces Scholars
November 4, 2009
Lawrence Woodmere Academy announced that senior Soumya Rajendren has been named a Commended Student in the 2010 National Merit Scholarship Program and both Rajendren and senior Lilly Song were named AP Scholars.

LWA Viewing of the Magna Carta at Fraunces Tavern Museum
October 30, 2009
On Thursday, October 22, Lawrence Woodmere Academy hosted an independent school cocktail reception at Fraunces Tavern Museum to view the Magna Carta. LWA hosted this event through the generosity and support of Allison White Vadhan, who is a parent of  LWA students Julie '18 and Rachel '14, and the Director of Development and Special Assistant to the Executive Director for the Magna Carta.

Three Students Awarded Trustee Scholarship at Lawrence Woodmere Academy
September 22, 2009
Last spring Lawrence Woodmere Academy announced a new merit scholarship program for prospective and current students. The Trustee Scholarship is awarded to any student taking the Secondary School Admissions Test (SSAT) who scores in the 90th percentile. This merit award provides the recipient with a grant for half of the tuition during their Upper School career. LWA is proud to announce that three students were awarded the Trustee Scholarship for the 2009-2010 academic year.
