Three Students Awarded Trustee Scholarship at Lawrence Woodmere Academy

September 22, 2009

Last spring Lawrence Woodmere Academy announced a new merit scholarship program for prospective and current students. The Trustee Scholarship is awarded to any student taking the Secondary School Admissions Test (SSAT) who scores in the 90th percentile. This merit award provides the recipient with a grant for half of the tuition during their Upper School career. LWA is proud to announce that three students were awarded the Trustee Scholarship for the 2009-2010 academic year.

The inaugural Trustee Scholars are Aaron Rosenthal, eleventh grade student and son of Drs. Rosenthal of Hewlett; Sloan Millman, eleventh grade student and son of Mr. and Mrs. Millman of Woodsburgh; and Ezioma Asonye, tenth grade student and daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Asonye of Balwin. Of note, all three students who qualified for the Trustee Scholarships were current Lawrence Woodmere Academy students.

“We are very proud that three current students at LWA have been recognized based on their academic abilities,” Alan Bernstein, Headmaster, said. “This scholarship program is meant to reward outstanding academic students for their potential and enables us to have the very best and brightest students in our school community, regardless of financial need. Our approach to academic success at LWA is more important now than ever; we are sensitive to our current economic climate by doing what we've always done, provide opportunity and reward achievement.”

LWA, which will celebrate its centennial in 2012, announced this program last year in February to highlight their long-standing tradition of financial support for outstanding students.
