Alum Matthew C. Blank (’68) Speaks at 2008 LWA Commencement Exercises

Matthew C. Blank, Woodmere Academy graduate of 1968, addressed the Lawrence Woodmere Academy class of 2008 at their Commencement Exercises on Thursday, June 12th at 8pm. Mr. Blank, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Showtime Networks INC, will be celebrating 40 years since he graduated from the school.
Chicks Are Hatched!

The Lawrence Woodmere Academy Kindergarten class recently returned 9
chicks to Green Meadows Farm after spending three weeks hatching them.

Nine LWA Students Inducted into The Cum Laude Society

On Monday, May 19, 2008, nine Lawrence Woodmere Academy students were inducted into The Cum Laude Society, an extremely selective national academic organization.
LWA Poets Featured in Anthology

Creative Communications, Inc. has selected 6 poets from Mrs. Komisarow’s seventh grade English class at Lawrence Woodmere Academy to be featured in their anthology entitled A Celebration of Young Poets.
LWA Experiences "Bash the Trash"

On Monday, April 28, Lower and Middle School students
experienced Bash the Trash Environmental Arts, a group of artist/educators
dedicated to raising environmental awareness through our respective art forms
while making connections to science, literacy, social studies, and math.

LWA Places First and Fifth in the Protein Modeling Challenge
April 15, 2008
Lawrence Woodmere Academy placed first and fifth in the Protein
Modeling Challenge, hosted by Stony Brook University Center for Science
and Mathematics Education on Friday, April 11. This was the first time
they had participated.
LWA Fourth Grader to Perform at Young Musicians Competition
April 11, 2008
Veronica Kostinsky, a Lawrence Woodmere Academy fourth grade student, has been chosen by the American Association for the Development of the Gifted and Talented (AADGT) to perform at the Young Musicians Competition "Passion of Music 2008."
Middle School Raises Money for 'Hoops for Hearts'
April 11, 2008
Lawrence Woodmere Academy Middle School recently participated in Hoops for Heart, a fundraising event that benefits the American Heart Association, which uses the money to fight heart diseases and stroke through research and education.
LWA Junior is Finalist in ASABE Multimedia Competition

Keum San Chun, a Lawrence Woodmere Academy junior, has finished fourth
in the district in the 2008 ASABE Multi-media Competition for High
School Students. He is now being considered among a select group of
national semi-finalists, three of which will be chosen to give an oral
presentation at the Annual International Meeting in Providence, Rhonde
Island.

You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown

Lawrence Woodmere Academy Upper School will be performing You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown! on Saturday, April 12 at 8 p.m., and Sunday, April 13 at 3 p.m. The production, which is based on the characters created by cartoonist Charles M. Schulz in his comic strip Peanuts, is about an average day in the life of Charlie Brown.

Author Harold Theurer Visits the LWA Lower School

On Monday, March 31, Harold Theurer, Jr., author of Hey Dad, Let’s have a Catch!, read his book to the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th grades. He answered questions about the writing process and signed books. In Hey Dad, Let’s Have a Catch!, a simple, yet meaningful, father and son activity becomes the focal point.
LWA History Teacher Chosen by the Goethe Institute to Study in Germany

Alexander Dillon, a Lawrence Woodmere Academy history teacher, has been chosen to participate in the 2008 Study Tour of the "Transatlantic Outreach Program," run by the Goethe Institute.

Harold “Hal” Kwalwasser, from Woodmere Academy class of 1964, visited the AP Comparative Government class and the AP English Language and Composition class at Lawrence Woodmere Academy on Friday, March 7.
The Female Odd Couple at LWA

Neil Simon’s female version of The Odd Couple will take place on Saturday, February 9th

Author Michael Winerip Speaks With LWA Students
January 15, 2008
Michael Winerip, author of "Adam Canfield of the Slash," spoke to a group of Lawrence Woodmere Academy students on Wednesday, January 9, about his new book "Adam Canfield, Watch Your Back!" Michael spoke to the students about becoming a writer for the New York Times and about the risk he took to become an author. The LWA Middle School book club read both of his books and were able to ask questions and have their books signed.

LWA Senior Selected for NSCAA/Adidas High School Scholar All-American Soccer Team

Pamela Boneparth, a senior at Lawrence Woodmere Academy, has recently been named to the NSCAA (National Soccer Coaches Association of America)/Adidas Girls High School Scholar All-America Team.
