The Lawrence Woodmere Academy Lower School, Pre-School through grade 4, establishes strong foundations and richly layered learning experiences for the ever-curious, always-wondrous child. We believe that healthy lifelong learning patterns and habits are best nurtured at the youngest age possible. Our students feel comfortable and challenged in a uniquely diverse environment that is based on respect for all children and their capacity to learn and to contribute. A faculty-student ratio of 1:6 ensures that each child receives individual attention.

Our pre-school embraces the social, cognitive, emotional, and physical growth of the child. All transitions are gentle; all new experiences are opportunities for discovery, and each individual triumph is gratifying and self-affirming. Music, art, science, literature-based activities, number sense experiences, and physical education are woven into the schedule. Half day and full day programs available.
Kindergarten - Grade 4
The Lower School is a literate, scientific, artistic atmosphere in which students are involved, confident, and excited about learning. The children discuss literature, conduct research in the computer lab, manage the school store, simulate the Olympics, devise hypotheses in the science lab, learn a musical instrument, perform choral recitals, and model world-famous artists in our Lower School art studio. The students are active participants in the world of ideas. Our foreign language program, beginning in Kindergarten, offers the opportunity for students to gain cultural knowledge and begin the experience of hearing and speaking a language other than English.
Students experience music, art, and physical education on a daily basis. Teachers enrich their curriculum with student-centered projects and simulations. Students move beyond the classroom walls and experience many field trips throughout the school year.
