The Jack Sprat Low-Fat Tour Visits LWA
December 16, 2008
The Lower School at Lawrence Woodmere Academy learned about nutrition on Monday, December 1, with the Jack Sprat Low-Fat World Tour. The production is funded by the American Cancer Society of New York, which originally commissioned the production to make children aware of the benefit of a good diet in relation to building the body's natural resistance to disease.
Rob Shepardson Speaks to LWA About the Obama Campaign, Youth Vote

Rob Shepardson, who lists his work with the Obama campaign as his most memorable in his career, spoke at LWA last week. "This is the first time the young vote was bigger than the older vote," Shepardson said to an audience of eighty Lawrence Woodmere Academy juniors and seniors on Thursday, December 11.
Boneparth Alums Help UNC to 2008 NCAA Women's College Cup

Parents Speak About Entrepreneurship to LWA Economics Class

Jim Confino, the President of Image Ink, and Karen Confino, CFO of the Japanese cosmetic company Shiseido, spoke to an LWA economics class on Thursday, November 20. Speaking to an audience that included their daughter, current senior Jamie Confino, Mr. and Mrs. Confino spoke about entrepreneurship and their respective professional careers.
LWA Gets Students Involved in Election 2008

Lawrence Woodmere Academy used this year's historic presidential race as a springboard for education. Grades pre-kindergarten through 12 participated in a mock election on November 3, and declared Sentator Obama as the winner. "LWA has a history of graduating socially responsible citizens, and this mock election is only one example of everything we do to teach them about the weight of their decisions on the world at large and ensure their participation in democracy," Donna Linton, Middle School Director, said.
LWA Middle Schoolers Take the Stand-Up Pledge

On October 16, the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty, LWA Middle School students stood up with millions around the world to pledge their commitment to the fight against extreme poverty and inequality.

and his own experience as a student. "I’ve been in this room before," Weinstein said.
Alum Tony Petitti Named President of the New MLB Network
October 20, 2008
Tony Petitti, former Executive Vice-President of CBS Sports, a three time Emmy Award winner, and a 1979 graduate of Woodmere Academy, is the President of the new MLB Network. Petitti delivered the commencement address at the graduation ceremonies for the Lawrence Woodmere Academy Class of 2006.

We are pleased to announce that in an effort to teach by example, we will soon begin using electronic mail for more of our correspondence with you. We feel that if we can begin to use less paper for school communications, we can make a small difference and help the LWA community become more environmentally aware.
Chateau Coffee Shop Celebrates Its 50th With LWA Alums

On Friday, September 12, Lawrence Woodmere Academy alumni gathered at The Chateau Coffee Shop for a “mish,” to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the restaurant, which has had an important relationship with the Academy over the years.
LWA Students Have an Array of Summer Accomplishments

Lawrence Woodmere Academy students spent the summer preparing for the year ahead. Zachary Kaplan, an LWA junior from Long Beach, was awarded a spot at the National Youth Leadership Forum on Medicine; Caroline Clark of Belle Harbor and Kim Taff of Malverne, both LWA juniors, participated in the Empire State Games at Binghamton University; and Cameron Duic, a fourth grade student from Mineola, Lincoln Stefanello, a fifth grade student from Lido Beach, and Jordyn Berry, a fourth grade student from West Hempstead, completed the National Young Scholars program.
LWA Introduces New Lower School Director

We are excited to announce the arrival of our new Lower School Director, Narinder Bhalla. Ms. Bhalla comes to us with invaluable experience in New York City independent schools, as well as with her enthusiasm for education and a bright perspective on our Lower School program.
