Headmaster's Message
The Lawrence
Woodmere Academy
motto of veritas, integritas, servitium (truth, integrity, and service) is a
driving force behind the global education that we offer. The search for truth represents our commitment to
teaching students all we can about themselves and the world around them, cultivating
a lifelong love of learning. Integrity
represents our belief that character development is as important for our
students as academic study. The word service
highlights our deliberate effort to promote empathy, charity, and social
responsibility. This motto is realized through a partnership of parents,
faculty, and students – equally committed to these ideals.
At Lawrence Woodmere Academy
we believe that teaching with a global perspective requires us to help our
students become knowledgeable about the diversity of our world and to develop a
sense of empathy and understanding that enables a more open and flexible
problem solving response when considering challenges presented on a global
scale. To do this effectively requires developing the habits of considering
more than one point of view when analyzing an issue, deconstructing the
patterns of communication so that more clarity and less misinterpretation can
occur, developing values based on knowledge instead of prejudice, and
encouraging the confidence to view differences as an opportunity to achieve an
even more inspired outcome.
These are very ambitious goals, to be sure, but the opportunity we have to
provide our students with the skills and perspective to truly make a difference
in the world compels us to work diligently in pursuit of achieving an authentic
global perspective in our classrooms. As we consider our educational mission,
it seems to me that teaching our students with a global perspective is perhaps
the most crucial component we can acknowledge, if we want to provide our
graduates every possible advantage as they continue their journey to college
and beyond. It is a responsibility Lawrence
Woodmere Academy
readily accepts as we strive towards academic excellence and success for all of
our students.
As a school with three divisions, we welcome students at
different points of their education and development. What our students share is
character and integrity, demonstrated academic ability, intellectual curiosity,
spirit, and a desire to contribute positively to the school community.
