Arts & Athletics
At Lawrence Woodmere Academy, we believe that a well-rounded education includes more than just academics.
The special areas of athletics, fine arts and the performing arts support our mission to foster development of the whole child, encouraging our kids to explore, analyze and evaluate the world around them. This can provide students with an additional way to develop personal worth and pride in an area where they can demonstrate mastery.
Through a wide variety of media, students at LWA experience the arts as an integral part of the curriculum. When we teach the arts, we not only provide students with an opportunity to “make art” for themselves, but also create the potential for understanding at many levels, both cognitive and aesthetic.
Our athletic program is, of course, an important part of our children’s physical health and fitness. Just as importantly, it also emphasizes participation, sportsmanship, hard work, and leadership. We also pride ourselves on a no-cut policy: any child who wants to play on a team will be able to do so.
We enrich the entire school community with these efforts, since a school with robust arts and athletics programs can provide sporting events, concerts, theatrical productions, and exhibitions that will enhance the quality of school life for everyone.
